The Kloof Conservancy’s financial year end is on 31 March and they will soon be receiving reminders to renew your membership of the Kloof Conservancy. The membership contribution remains unchanged at R150 for families, R600 for small businesses and R1200 for corporate companies. Over the past year the committee has been very active with projects ranging from education on water health, challenging the state on invasive aliens and leading the way in developing a greater focus for all conservancies in eThekwini. Their efforts are increasingly being recognised and appreciated particularly by eThekwini Municipality.
They have also tried to keep all their members well informed through our communications channels; regular e-mails, Facebook page, website, monthly e-newsletter and the bi-annual e-magazine The Leopard’s Echo. They believe that the efforts of people and business are key to the sustainability of conservation in Kloof. Your membership, whether active of passive, is valuable to them as it adds public legitimacy to their efforts.
Within this context Kloof Conservancy urges you to renew your membership as a statement of support for their work and ask, if you can, to persuade a few fellow residents of Kloof to also join them.
You are also invited to attend their Annual General Meeting which is now scheduled for Tuesday 31 May starting at 6pm promptly. Snacks and refreshments will be served from 5:30pm. The AGM will take place at the renovated Krantzkloof Conference Centre which is now managed by the conservancy. The Guest Speaker will be Dr Debra Roberts, head of the Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department at eThekwini and one of the lead negotiators on the South African team to the international climate change conferences. Dr Roberts will update us on the latest round of negotiations at Cop 21 which were held recently in Paris.
They have planned their next Back-to-Nature event, a Butterfly Day in partnership with Lepsoc for Saturday 9 April at Tanglewood farm. They do need some volunteers to assist with manning the entry gate and assist at the activity tables (including face-painting!) – Please e-mail them at info@kloofconservancy.org.za if you can help – it is actually quite a lot of fun!
