It’s time to get excited and to get involved! Media24’s KZN Local News division, in partnership with KZN Premier Senzi Mchunu, has launched the KZN Premier Spelling Bee 2014.

The aim is to inculcate a love of the English language amongst second language English speakers in the province.
The Zululand Fever has successfully run the educational competition for four years now in the Zululand area, but this is the first time it is being introduced to previously-disadvantaged pupils around the rest of KZN.
Once pupils have learned words printed in a supplement in our KZN local newspapers at the beginning of May, there will be five regional spelling bees across the province in July, covering an area from Pongola in the north, to Port Edward in the South, inland to Kokstad and in the Pietermaritzburg area as well.
The supplement – containing more than 1000 words and their definitions – will be printed in the week ending 2 May 2014. Scholars will need to learn these words to compete at their respective regional events.
Advertisers and sponsors have a chance to get involved by placing an advert in the supplement or by donating cash, book money or product sponsorship for the prizes. Prizes will benefit pupils, their teachers and their schools.
Material deadline for adverts to appear in the 2 May 2014 12-page supplement is 18 April 2014.
