If you love the movies, then you are spoilt for choice at the moment. I can’t remember a time when there were so many fantastic films on at the same time, and I recommend you don’t miss these gems.
Argo, Ben Affleck’s thriller based around the Iranian Islamic Revolution and the taking of American hostages has been nominated for five Oscars and is being talked about as the best thriller in a decade. I am not a fan of this genre of film but I couldn’t look away from the screen.
Lincoln, about the aforenamed President of the United States, stars Daniel Day-Lewis and is also Oscar nominated. Sally-Ann Field’s perfomance as his wife is stunning and the whole film serves to remind us what a hugely important Presidency his was. The abolition of slavery, the furtherance of American values, stunning.
Les Miserables, a favourite of mine, was a tricky one to bring to the screen, but what a triumph. Hugh Jackman looks as handsome as ever and can sing, Anne Hathaway is stunning in the main role, and Russell Crowe proves he can’t sing, but you really don’t mind at all. Don’t miss it. This will win Oscars for sure.
Finally, Flight with Denzel Washington, another gripping thriller and another Oscar nomination is also a must see. I love Denzel Washington, and the whole cast is great, with amazing special effects for the guys and a story that will have you on the edge of your seats. Take your husband to make up for sitting through Les Miserables, or if you are a guy, make her go and see this if you have already had to listen to Russell Crowe sing.
Enjoy!
