A group of local woman have heard the global call to highlight child abuse and protect the youngest among us. Help them to make a difference and enjoy a fabulous night out! Here’s what you need to know…
A formal Ball will be held at the St Agnes Campus on Friday, 14 October 2011, the aim being to raise awareness for the protection against child abuse as well as to raise funds for Little Lambs. The Night in Versailles Ball will be catering for 408 people from the Kloof, Hillcrest, Everton, Forest Hills and Waterfall areas and promises to be the Highway social event of the year with fine dining, a coffee and dessert lounge, wonderful dance music as well as a cash bar and an auction.
Funds raised will help to support Little Lambs, a crisis care home situated in Kloof that cares for orphaned and abandoned babies and toddlers. The centre opened its doors in December 2010 and currently houses six children, ranging in age from a few weeks to six years old. These children are all desperately waiting for foster or adoptive parents within South Africa. Although the home is established and operating, the managers are in constant need of financial help for their care workers, as well as for milk formula, nappies and baby food.
Continual awareness for the plight of abused children in our society remains a necessity. More than half of child abusers (52 to 65 per cent) in KZN are under 18 and five out of every seven children will experience some form of abuse. A study by the Children’s Institute at the University of Cape Town revealed that 400 000 to 500 000 children are abused annually.
