Meet Sam Gwala – Volvo CARS Hillcrest’s unique receptionist with top-notch barista skills.
There’s nothing stopping 23-year-old Sam, who started off her career after her daughter was born six years ago by waitressing at a coffee shop in Kloof before joining a week-long barista course with Lineage’s Craig Charity. She then returned to the Kloof coffee shop, but when Covid hit, job opportunities were scarce.
However, this did not stop Sam from searching and pushing on, and in October 2020 she applied for a position as Volvo Cars Hillcrest’s in-house barista and successfully started making perfect cappuccinos for the multi-franchise FMGH dealership’s customers. FMGH Group GM for Marketing, Bronwyn Fynn, quickly saw Sam’s potential and way with people, and promoted her to full-time receptionist in February 2021.
“I just love talking to and interacting with customers,” smiles Sam – who dreams of opening her own coffee shop one day, but is planning to do pop-up coffee stands at local weekend events first. The sky is the limit for this beautiful, bubbly young lady.
