My husband cannot wait to get away from London and back to Durban to stand on the 9th hole at Durban Country Club telling crowds to be quiet in his capacity as ‘an official’! The Volvo Golf Championships are coming to town, and thirty four of the world’s greatest golfers are coming to play in this curtain raiser for the 2013 European Tour.
Every participant is a proven winner, whose presence at this tournament has come about either because they have won on tour in the last twelve months, or through having accumulated ten or more career wins.
England’s Paul Casey, a previous winner, and defending champion Branden Grace who won an incredible five titles during 2012 are back, and join representatives of sixteen countries.
Seven Major winners will be competing, including the current Open Champion, South African Ernie Els. World number six Louis Oosthuizen and double winner of the US Open Retief Goosen. Jose Maria Olazabal, the Ryder Cup Captain, Paul Lawrie and Darren Clarke, both former Open winners are also in the field.
The other well known names include Padraig Harrington, Matteo Manassero, Francesco Molinari, Peter Hanson, Henrik Stenson, This is a world class event, and the eyes of the world will once again be on Durban.
