We certainly don’t want to add to the man’s pain, but Durban-born rocker Ard Matthews (long-time frontman of Just Jinjer) mangled Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika at the announcement of the Springbok squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup last night.
Apparently this was a huge honour for Ard and nerves got the better of him. It brings memories of the infamous Ras Dumasani incident flooding back!
Ard’s been consoled by his Springbok mates and all sorts this morning. In an interview with Radio 5′s Gareth Cliff, Matthews said he was distraught, while Cliff referred to Matthews and Ras Dumasani as the “Anthem death match”.
The 2011 South African World Cup squad includes 18 players from the victorious 2007 RWC team and 8 from The Sharks. The full squad is:
