Works of art by some of the great masters have been immortalised into Pod People by local artist and sculpturer Audrey Rudnick. Lois Kuhle drools over her work
Audrey has released her new collection of six Pod People, with a further two waiting in the wings.
“I’ve been so inspired by the works of the artists I have manifested,” she told us from her busy studio in Umdloti.
She talked us through her sculptures with such passion it was easy to understand why she’d been so motivated to produce this new collection.
“Frida Kahlo was a very self-absorbed artist and most of her work is self portraits,” Audrey explained, showing us an excellent rendition of the famous Mexican painter nestling two parrots in her arms.
“Modigliani produced delightful warm paintings with such a rich feel to them and I just love Picasso’s line drawings. They were totally out of proportion and obscure. In the piece I’ve chosen of the dancers, they had tiny heads and huge arms!”
Audrey Rudnick also used Picasso’s cubism phase to create another unusual piece.
“It was such fun working on it, and I am really pleased with the result.”
Gustav Klimpt’s art depicted elegant, soft women, and Audrey’s sculpture is truly beautiful.
Tamara de Lempicka was one of the only female art deco artists of her time to become successful, and Audrey is equally fascinated by her work.
Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Vladimir Tretchikoff’s Miss Wong are next on her list.
All of her exquisite pieces of art have been made from palm fronds and hand crafted sculptures and are truly unique. A must for every Christmas stocking!
