The Mr Price Pro Ballito is back this year and will host top SA bands and musos who will take to the stage at Salt Rock Beach.
KZN’s premier surf event is jammed with the very best South African musos – and 2010 brings the ultimate sound wave to Salt Rock Beach on July 9 and 10.
This year The Mr Price Pro Ballito music concerts, presented by East Coast Radio, include a laidback, acoustic evening on July 9 and a hard core rock night on July 10.
This year’s vibe is going back to its instrumental hippie roots with echoes of folk and blues – ideal for those into the acoustic rhythms of the likes of Jack Johnson and John Mayer.
Newcomers Sidewash start the show at 5pm, and then watch the sun go down at 5.35pm to the unique sounds of Guy Buttery, regarded as one of the finest acoustic musos on the South African music scene.
Home-styled local folk singer Nibs van der Spuy is up next at 6.05pm. His “African” vocals and acoustic guitar style perfectly capture the relaxed feel of our east coast.
Then chill out to the bluesy, folk-tinged acoustic guitar sound of Durban-born Farryl Purkis at 6.35pm featuring songs from his latest album, Fruitbats and Crows.
Ard Matthews, frontman of South Africa’s number one selling rock band, Just Jinjer, return to the Mr Price Pro Ballito acoustic night at 7.20pm. After a decade of touring internationally Just Jinjer exploded on to the local music scene in 1996 and now have six number one hits and two double-platinum albums to their name.
Durban’s multicultural seven-piece group Maisha ends the evening at 8.20pm, with an eclectic mix of ballads, jazz, blues and folk.
July 10 brings the East Coast’s biggest ever seaside gig, starting off with winners of the Mr Price Pro playoffs in June, Catlike Thieves at 4.30pm.
New Holland takes to the stage next at 5pm with is unique version of “party rock n roll”.
The Pixie Bennett Band, fronted by the popular Idols finalist, is next up at 5.40pm featuring its single So Spun. Durban-based City Bowl Mizers follow at 6.30pm.
They make way for The Dirty Skirts at 7.25pm with alternative indie rock and dance floor beats. Flash Republic rocks the party next at 8.30pm with songs such as the hit Twister.
The signature rock band Prime Circle will take the stage at 9.35pm. Their rock mix has earned the band a spot in the South African Rock Hall of Fame, and their playlist features well known songs like Hello, Let Me Go, Live This Life World, as well as their latest hits from their hugely successful All or Nothing album – Out Of This Place, She Always Gets What She Wants and Consider Me.
