David Beckham’s lawyers pounced on a Bosnian prostitute who claimed she had sex with the football star, to serve a $25 million libel writ.
Two off-duty police officers were staking out a New York hotel where Irma Nici has stayed since her three-in-a-bed lies were published in US magazine In Touch, and were finally able to serve her the legal papers after she had ducked and dived for days.
It’s believed the lawsuit accuses Nici of damaging Becks’ reputation and causing him “mental anguish”.
The huge amount of cash is being claimed from almost everyone connected with In Touch that printed her claims, including writers, photographers, editors and distributors.
“The case arises from defendants’ publication of lies to make money for themselves and to embarrass and inflict emotional distress upon Beckham, a world-famous athlete. Defendants published these statements with actual malice and with intent to profit by causing harm to Beckham,” the writ states, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Irma, who told the magazine that she slept with Beckham five times in London and New York when she was working as a high-class prostitute, has been demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars from other media organisations for an interview. Sources – The Daily Telegraph; The Sun
