April 28, 2011. The Blythedale Coastal Resort Schools’ Easter Rugby Festival has delivered on its promise to provide the best clashes in schoolboy rugby over the Easter weekend. The scintillating rivalry between 12 top rugby playing South African schools has kept friends, family and supporters glued to their seats and entertained throughout the weekend at Kearsney College, Botha’s Hill.
And three talented and fortunate young men saw their dreams come true when they were selected for coveted places at the Sharks Academy. Selecting the three top players among the upcoming talent on show at the festival this year proved a tough job for talent scouts, which included The Sharks Academy and Varsity College. The three players who will take another big step forward in embarking on rugby careers – attending the prestigious Sharks Academy and studying through Varsity College in 2012 – are Ryan Germishuys (Best Forward, Selborne College), Spho Msutwana (Best Backline Player, Dale College) and Dries Swanepoel (Best Player of the Festival, Grey College).
MD of the Sharks Academy, Hans Scriba, was very complimentary about the rugby on show at the festival, “The standard of rugby has showed great promise for the future of rugby in this country.”
Running rugby
Kearsney Headmaster, Elwyn van den Aardweg, commented, “This year’s festival has been a huge success with a great display of running rugby from some of our country’s top schools and for the first time one international school, Christ’s College from New Zealand. We would like to thank all the schools for the role they’ve played in making this festival such a success in our 90th commemorative year.”
Mark Taylor, Kearsney old boy and CEO of The eLan Property Group, which is extremely active in the property market on the KZN North Coast, including developing the Blythedale Coastal Resort, said: “For us as title sponsor, this has been a magnificent opportunity in showcasing a family lifestyle that both the eLan Property Group and Kearsney College strive to achieve.”
