Business Owners are the Solution to Unemployment in South Africa

By The Crest Magazine26/03/20212 Mins Read

Darryn Le Grange – Owner ActionCOACH Ignite.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) recently released their Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) results which showed South Africa’s unemployment has increased and now stands at 32,5% or 7,2 million people.

“To make matters worse, that’s only the ‘official’ unemployment figure.  Expanded unemployment now stands at over 11 million people or 42,6%. It is easy to glance over the stats and even easier to lose perspective.  So to help, that equates to almost as many people unemployed as everyone living in the entire KwaZulu-Natal province.  Put differently, that’s the entire population of a bustling city like Cairo combined with the whole of Soweto,” says Darryn Le Grange – Owner ActionCOACH Ignite.

Deeply concerned by these numbers, ActionCOACH Southern Africa, launched the EveryONE EmployONE initiative. “With around 3.5 million businesses currently in South Africa – from informal traders to Small and Medium Enterprises, large business and corporates – we are the solution.  If EveryONE employs just ONE person, we would cut the official unemployment figure in half,” explains Le Grange.

Human beings are wired to contribute but without employment, there can be no contribution. ActionCOACH Southern Africa truly believes the biggest challenge we face as South Africans is the unemployment crisis.  If people are employed, they are given choice – the choice to take back control of their own lives.  The solution to unemployment lies in the hands of every business owner and entrepreneur.

Each and every one of us can play an integral part in solving the unemployment crisis and form part of the solution. “Business owners are the future of the economy. The #EveryONEemployONE campaign encourages all business owners and entrepreneurs to employ just one more person in their business,” concludes Le Grange.
