Join Kloof Conservancy for a fun-filled day where you can relax and learn something about the environment we live in.
This is a family event and activities are planned for school-going children to learn about butterflies in a fun way. Children will be divided into teams and each team will be provided with a butterfly attractor – essentially a bag of well ripened fruit!
A short talk will be given by renowned “butterfly man” Steve Woodhall explaining what butterflies are likely to be found in the area and what they eat. He will have some live samples to show and explain the butterfly life cycle.
The teams will also be provided with butterfly lists with photographs. The teams will then have a couple of hours to spot and identify as many butterflies as they can. At the end of the two hours, each team will present their results. There will be some token prizes/awards for various achievements. The children will be supervised by Kloof Conservancy Volunteers, so adults can relax!
For the adults, a talk and walk will be presented on butterflies of the area. KZN Wildlife Honorary Officers will also be on hand to lead short guided walks to Nkutu Falls and other nearby points of interest in the reserve. A signed copy of “What’s that butterfly?” by Steve Woodhall is up for grabs in a lucky draw.

Where: Krantzkloof Nature Reserve – The Splash / Picnic Spot on Valley Drive
Cost: There is a KZN Wildlife entry fee of R15 per person (children under 12 – R5)
Directions:
From Kloof, turn right at the top of Bridle Road into King George Avenue (which becomes Valley Drive) and continue to the bottom of the hill – the picnic spot is on the right-hand side of the road.
*There are braai facilities and fires will be prepared for you and ready from noon.
