One person is in a serious condition and another two sustained minor injuries after the car they were travelling in overturned on the N3 near Camperdown last night.
ER24 paramedics dispatched from Pietermaritzburg found the car in the centre medium with all three occupants outside the vehicle, two of whom had minor cuts and bruises.
The third occupant was complaining of neck and back pain, and was placed on a specialised board to help protect his spine from any further damage.
All three patients were transported to Northdale Hospital for further medical care.
It is believed that the three occupants, who are foreigners, were travelling towards Pietermaritzburg when the driver lost control of the vehicle trying to avoid an animal that was in the road.
The paramedics said that they did not see any animals around, but that stretch of freeway is notorious for cattle wandering across the road.
