The 31 Club is entering its 50th year and, to celebrate its achievements, the club is hosting a grand ball at the Elangeni Hotel on Wednesday 29 June.
Themed ‘A royal affair’, it will be a fabulous black tie event for 250 people with catering by Shaun Munro and music by Afritude. As has become tradition, the Vodacom Durban July horses will be auctioned by Graeme Hawkins from Gold Circle during the evening, with proceeds going to 31 Club Charities.
The 31 Club is a registered non-profit organisation formed in 1962 by a group of women under the chairmanship of Norma Rattray, who continues to offer her support. The club’s principal aim is to raise funds for charities in Kwazulu Natal.
The youth, the elderly and dying, the physically challenged, animals and the environment are all supported by the Club’s fundraising activities, which brought in R450 000 in 2010. Local charities include Big Shoes Foundation, Brown School, Childline Family Centre KZN and Kloof Rest Home.
“Our sponsors are our lifeline and we are greatly indebted to the many companies who believe in what we are doing and support us generously,” says Cheryl Gerber. “The bottom line is that the more sponsorship we secure, the more funds we are able to give away to our charities.”
