The Wellness Centre Trust empowers homeless and destitute people to earn a sustainable income by finding employment, developing small businesses and mentoring these employees in adjusting to their new environment.
They aim to partner with businesses and decrease vagrancy in Durban through a structured, managed facility with restricted access.
Recently they have submitted a proposal to the eThekwini Municipality for the use of the vacant property on 71 Playfair Road in Durban, for the purpose of establishing The Wellness Centre Academy to advance their programme.
The Wellness Centre Academy will provide specialised, sustainable interventions to eradicate the increasing number of homeless people in the City of Durban parallel to the findings of the Human Science Research Council study and integration of these findings into city policy.
The Wellness Centre Trust Founder, Eloise Briggeman, will be presenting this ground breaking project where members will have an opportunity to further engage with representatives of The Wellness Centre Trust.
Short Bio of the founder: Eloise holds a BCom degree with some 15 years accountancy experience. She is financial director of Briggeman Material Handling Solutions (Pty) Ltd. With a heart for the people she founded and runs The Wellness Centre Trust since 2014. Started in Durban, her vision is to have these centres throughout South Africa and into the rest of Africa.
