Cracking little stocking filler

By The Crest Magazine03/01/20112 Mins Read

Ok, so times are hard and we’re all cutting back, but wouldn’t it be amazing if the motorheads among us could order something like this extraordinary concept C-X75, recently unveiled at the Paris Motor Show to celebrate 75 years of iconic Jaguar design? Peta Lee drools.

The C-X75 is a tribute to three quarters of a century of outstanding design, as well as a glimpse into the future of automotive technology.

Take a good look at it – absolutely mind-bogglingly gorgeous. Designed as a range-extended electric two-seater supercar, it goes way beyond just exploring the limits of performance and sustainability. The designers said the aim was to produce not only the most innovative but also one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever.

With plug-in capability, the C-X75 can achieve a zero exhaust emissions range of 110km when running under battery power alone, plus a potential top speed of 330km/h (how do you like them apples!), and blistering acceleration.

Its whopping 580kW propulsion system combines powerful 145kW electric motors at each wheel for outstanding performance, and there are mid-mounted micro gas-turbines at the centre of the car. These can either generate 140kW to charge the batteries and extend the car’s range to 900km – enough to drive from London to Berlin on a single tank – or when in Track mode, provide supplementary power directly to the electric motors. The four electric motors provide torque-vectored, all-wheel-drive traction and grip, essential in a car that produces 580kW and a mindblowing 1600Nm of torque.

Oh, and in case you’re interested, the Jag will fly you from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds, not too shabby at all.

The car is started using a switch mounted in the aircraft-inspired overhead control panel. Twin needles indicating turbine functionality sweep dramatically around the edge of the main dials and back to rest.

Jaguar design director Ian Cullum says: “The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace, yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar. You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get, and we believe it is a worthy homage to 75 years of iconic Jaguar design.”
