This year’s theme, “Dream, Believe, Achieve” aims to inspire girl learners to have the power to dream their greatest dream and make it come true.
The Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day is targeted at Grade 10 to 12 female learners, giving them the opportunity to visit a place of work, experience the working world first-hand and see the various career opportunities available in the industry and within the public service sectors.
More than 50 000 young people are expected to benefit this year, as hundreds of companies around the country participate in this ground-breaking project.
Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive of the Cell C Foundation says: “Year-on-year we are humbled by the support we receive from private companies, public sector organisations and individuals. Anyone can become involved in the programme and make a difference in the life of a young woman – whether by opening the doors of their company, sharing their experience or making a cash donation towards bursaries for girl learners.”
“By providing guidance and exposure to the workplace, we empower young women to pursue their dreams and ambitions and become more vibrant contributors to the economy and leading job creators for South Africa.”
The new Miss South Africa and ambassador for the campaign, Rolene Strauss, says she feels more than honoured to be the spokesperson for the brand.
“I am passionate about women and South Africa. When the women of South Africa thrive, South Africa will thrive. I want to encourage young women to believe in their dreams, and their power to inspire, influence and lead.”

Since the first launch in 2003, more than 2 300 companies and government departments have participated in the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day.
By showing their support of Cell C’s call to action for the advancement of women, 620 000 girl learners have been exposed to a multitude of businesses and varied career and job opportunities.
The project has found its most ardent support from the Presidency, which has hosted girl learners since the inaugural event, as well as being endorsed by the Department of Education.
