Duck n Deck Christmas for the kids

By The Ridge Magazine15/10/20103 Mins Read

Duck n Deck and friends have sent out this heartfelt plea for assistance in making this special time even more special for the Lily of the Valley kids.

At this time of year, as we gear up for Christmas and get into the spirit of giving and sharing, and are surrounded by our precious family and friends, we are reminded of those for whom Christmas can be a sad and desolate time.

The Lily of the Valley orphanage is situated in Mophela (near Hammarsdale) and is home to 114 children ranging in age from 7 months to 16 years.  Most of the children living in the orphanage have been abandoned and 80% are HIV positive.

Duck n Deck animal farm held its first Christmas party for this orphanage in December 2006. Due to its success and appreciation, this event will be the 4th year in secession. The most amazing part of this fun day is the children’s excitement when receiving gifts from their “wish list” (handed out by Father Christmas), snacking on the most delicious treats and the fun activities of pony rides, jumping castle, face painting, makeovers etc.  The children have the most incredible time!

This year we want to raise the bar even higher.  These children have very little of their own.  There are so few opportunities for them to just enjoy a day out with no worries and just bask in being a child at Christmas time – as all children deserve.  The old adage that Christmas is a time for giving is really so true.  What’s more, it is in giving that we truly receive and those that gave so generously last year can pay testimony to that.

Special day

We are asking, most sincerely, for you to consider making a contribution to this special day.  The orphanage has sent us a list of the children’s “dream” presents for this Christmas and once again we will endeavour to get each child the present they hope for.  If you would like to contribute towards a gift for one of the children please do so by depositing into the bank account listed below.  If you would specifically like to buy a gift for a particular child, please let us know and we can provide you with some ideas for the gender and age group you may like to buy for.

You will find contact details below.

In addition to the gifts for the children, we also require the items listed below for the party.  If you are able to help out with any of these, please let us know: Jumping castle; face painting; clown or any form of fun children’s entertainment; hot dogs (we require 2 per child); ice creams; party packs

If you are not able to help with any of the above but still feel you would like to make a contribution, then we would love you to give of your time and join us. The more “hands-on-deck” the better as 114 children can be a handful to say the least! Please let us know if you can come.
