Michael Marnewick’s Quest for Glory was introduced to the public at book store Books & Books in Durban North on Thursday night.

Marnewick, who runs the Sharks rugby outfit’s website and fills other media responsibilities at the union, was able to use his considerable contacts to rope in former South African soccer coach Clive Barker and mental performance coach Tim Goodenough to speak at the event.
Both contributed to the book and provided thought provoking comments and insights on professional sports for those who attended the event on Thursday. Barker spoke about the “Madiba factor”, while Goodenough contributed his thoughts on how to get sportsmen mentally prepared to give of their best on the field.
Some of the big names who’ve contributed to this, Marnewick’s first book, are: Mark Andrews (Rugby World Cup winner’s medal – 1995); Penny Heyns (Olympic swimming champion); John Smit, Gary Teichmann, Naas Botha, Francois Pienaar, Bob Skinstad (Springbok captains); Herschelle Gibbs (Proteas’ batsman), Henning Gericke (Springbok sports psychologist – 2007 Rugby World Cup); Paul Treu (SA Sevens’ coach – world champions 2008/2009); Oscar Pistorius (paralympic world champion); Gary Player (golfing legend), Ryk Neethling (swimming champion) and Professor Tim Noakes.
