Coming up on May 22nd is the annual Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk – an event that has become a highlight on Durban’s calendar over the years and has been branded as one of the largest family fun events the city has ever seen.
The event began in 2004 as a fun walk with the aim of encouraging families to participate and get some exercise together.
From just 1,800 walkers in its first year, the event attracted 17,300 walkers last year – a bigger field than the Comrades Marathon.
Now in its seventh year, the Walk will have four routes, with distances of 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km. The 20km route will be a fully timed race.
The Walk starts at uShaka and finishes at the George Campbell Technical High School, but buses will be laid on to ferry walkers between the two.
- Option 1: Park at uShaka and walk your chosen route. There will be event buses at the FINISH to take you back to your car. Walkers must pay for this ride.
- Option 2: Park at the George Campbell Technical High School and jump onto one of the event buses to get to the START. This service is free to all walkers on the day.
Parking costs R10 at all venues.
