For those not in the know, Julian Assange is the Australian journalist, publisher and internet activist known as the spokesman and editor in chief of WikiLeaks, which he founded in 2006. WikiLeaks has been front page news recently for its publication of leaked documents that have had corporates and diplomatic and government figures red faced.
Here’s a bit more on what it’s all about from the WikiLeaks website: “WikiLeaks is a non-profit media organization dedicated to bringing important news and information to the public. We provide an innovative, secure and anonymous way for independent sources around the world to leak information to our journalists. We publish material of ethical, political and historical significance while keeping the identity of our sources anonymous, thus providing a universal way for the revealing of suppressed and censored injustices.”
Governments, including the US, have strongly criticised Assange for publishing information they say is sensitive and could compromise the safety of individuals and nations’ assets.
‘Honey-trap’
In what many see as a cover-up or “honey-trap” operation, Assange is now being charged with sexual molestation relating to an incident in Sweden, and has been arrested in Britain. He denies the charges but is fighting extradition to Sweden. He surrendered himself to police under an agreement between his lawyers and police.
But here’s where it gets even more interesting. In a recent conversation with the Guardian newspaper, Assange strongly hinted that he would be interested in uncovering decades old files relating to unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
Weirdos
Here’s what Assange had to say to the Guardian: “Many weirdos e-mail us about UFOs or how they discovered that they were the anti-christ while talking with their ex-wife at a garden party over a pot-plant. However, as yet they have not satisfied two of our publishing rules.
1) that the documents not be self-authored;
2) that they be original.”
But here’s the juicy bit, Assange said: “However, it is worth noting that in yet-to-be-published parts of the cablegate archive there are indeed references to UFOs.”
According to the site www.wikileaksufo.com, “Wikileaks is likely to release enough information about UFOs to bring a rapid end to the decades-long secrecy surrounding extraterrestrial life and technology”.
This could make for really fun and interesting reading. That is, if Assange is vindicated and found to be not guilty of the charges he faces . . . and if he can keep politicians from shutting WikiLeaks down. – Ridge Correspondent
