Art and music lovers from around KZN will be gathering once again for a weekend of musical entertainment and a feast of artworks. Originally inspired and organised by the Rotary Club of Kloof and Spar, the Spar Festival in the Hills has grown into a widely-anticipated celebration for the whole family, with plenty of space for the kids to play in a safe environment.
The event kicks off on Friday, August 2 at Makaranga Garden Lodge with an evening movie screening in the beautiful gardens. Bring along your blankets and choose from the delectable light meals and beverages available from stalls on-site.
Saturday and Sunday brings a treat for art enthusiasts, with a spectacular exhibition of art from over 50 renowned artists. Come prepared because everything on display will be for sale.
The weekend programme wraps up on Sunday afternoon with the popular Music in the Hills, performed on a stage erected with Makaranga trees as its backdrop. This is a truly special event, with people travelling from around the province to enjoy the unique atmosphere and heavenly music, performed by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra with the Kearsney College school choir and a number of other local school choirs, all conducted by internationally-recognised Richard Cock.
The winner of the 2013 KZN Song writing competition, South Africa Siyakhanya (South Africa We Are Shining), will also be showcased.
Tickets cost from R20 for the art exhibition to R100 for Music in the Hills, and are available from Kloof Village Mall Superspar, Waterfall Superspar, Maytime Kwikspar, Hillcrest Kwikspar and Makaranga Gardens from mid-July, as well as at the venue on the day. All profits will be allocated and administered by Rotary for various projects undertaken within our community.
