Foodie Paradise

By The Ridge Magazine03/07/20122 Mins Read
Oysters and champagne at the Wonder Market

Word is getting around about our very own foodie paradise – and this past weekend was such fun you would have thought you were in Cape Town … except for the lack of wind, and the blazing sun.

At the Litchi Market a lazy Friday on Sheffield Beach led nicely into a little shopping, relaxing, mongoose spotting and pizza eating up at Sage.

On Saturday Durban beachfront hummed to the sounds of reggae, and longboarders mingled with tourists and surfers all along the Golden Mile as we celebrated the Flavours of Durban. What an amazing advertisement for our province, as the sun beat down, you could grab a sea kayak and paddle around on millpond seas for the princely sum of R100, watch dolphins, have a cocktail and eat a curry or a delicious mezze platter watching the fish at the end of the pier at Moyo.

On Sunday Frans Steyn was spotted shopping up a storm at the Wonder Market at Chris Saunders Park. The Olive Lady outdid herself, the oysters were fresher than fresh, and the champagne ran out just as the market wound up.

The back of my neck is brown, I have put on about five kilos, and the sand is beckoning again today. What a lovely way to spend the winter.

If any of you are longing for the UK at the moment, I’ll be there on Thursday for a couple of weeks of British summer. The weather forecast is torrential rain and 14 degrees! I will keep you posted …
