Upper Highway residents Kai and Trent Williams receive well-deserved recognition.

Upper Highway residents Kai and Trent Williams received well-deserved recognition recently – with Awards of Excellence from Dian Esterhuize, former South African Waveski Association (SAWSA) president (standing in for the current SAWSA president, Francois Steyn) and Darryl Moodie, SAWSA Treasurer and representative of Canoe SA, at a small gathering at Pirates Surf and Lifesaving Club with KZN Competitive Waveski (KZNCWA).

Doing Durban and South Africa proud by placing first and second in the Cadets division, the boys also placed Top 6 overall for all Juniors (U21) at the World Waveski Championships recently held in Venture, California.

Says current SAWSA President, Francois Steyn, “Kai and Trent’s performance, both in and out of the water, was exemplary. They surfed to the highest standard and impressed throughout the competition. Their sportsmanship along with team contribution was recognised by the World Waveski Surfing Association and member nations, and both boys were applauded as ambassadors of South Africa and its youth. Kai and Trent were was also awarded the Waveski Adventurers Star of the Future Award at the final prizegiving evening. Their achievement, both as sportsmen and flagbearers of our South African youth, has motivated the Executive Committee of the South African Waveski Surfing Association to apply to the Department of Sport for full SA Protea Colours, based on their overall performance in the Junior under 21 Division.”
