Michael was sentenced to eight weeks behind bars, plus a $1 875 fine with $150 in court costs, after his arrest in July, when he crashed into a shopfront near his home in Hampstead, north London.
The star, who allegedly has an extensive dagga smoking habit, admitted smoking dope before climbing behind the wheel. He has been banned from the roads for five years.
The former Wham! singer was locked up in London’s tough Pentonville jail on Tuesday, September 14 after his sentencing, but found the going extremely tough, especially when inmates started singing and whispering lyrics to George Michael hits to taunt him.
Michael dropped a planned appeal against his sentence on Friday, September 17, just hours ahead of a scheduled appeal and bail hearing at a court in London. Instead he spent the day travelling from Britain’s capital to Highpoint Prison in Suffolk, England, where he will serve out the rest of his sentence.
Hopefully there’ll be no more huffing and puffing, and the star who once sang I Don’t Want Your Freedom will keep the Faith in his more mellow surroundings and stick out the rest of his prison term. – Ridge Correspondent
