The second annual Tattoo-a-thon will be launched in Joburg and Durban to run concurrently with the Cape Town event on 29 March with the aim of raising R500,000 for the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.
CHOC is a nationwide organisation that provides holistic support for children suffering from cancer or life-threatening blood disorders, and their families. Along with the top tattoo studios in Cape Town, Joburg and Durban, the Tattoo-a-thon plans to raise the proceeds by generating a record 1 000 tattoos in one day.
“The event brings a diverse group of South Africans together who are all eager to assist CHOC by being tattooed by South Africa’s most talented artists,” says Jordan Gray, founder of the Tattoo-a-thon.
The Tattoo-a-thon will feature talented tattoo artists from top studios such as Wildfire Tattoos, Sins of Style, Metal Machine, and Fallen Heroes. “All tattoos are a set size, based on one hour of tattooing and will cost only R700. Participants can book their tattoo directly with the tattoo studio and can visit www.tattooathon.co.za to choose an artist of their choice,” says Manuela Gray, co-founder and owner of Wildfire Tattoos in Long Street, Cape Town.
As a non-profit organisation, CHOC relies heavily on donations from caring corporates, individuals and parents of children with cancer. “Donations and fundraising projects like the Tattoo-a-thon, therefore, ensure that they are able to continue providing support to these children,” says Gray.
