The committee of the “Glamorous Granny” event are planning to raise as much funding as possible to send our choir to participate in the 2013 “Llangollen International Eisteddfod” in Wales.
This is a prestiduous event with choirs from all parts of the world participating. “We feel confident that our choir will do us proud as they walked away with 6 gold medals at the 2011 Antonio Vivaldi International Choir Festival held in Karpenisi in Greece,” Glamorous Granny committee.
The aim of the choir is to build a choral tradition in KwaZulu Natal and to enrich communities through concerts and cultural development. Choristers are aged from 15 to 28 and are chosen purely on the merit of their audition. The choir is a non-profit organization and relies on membership fees from every chorister, with no additional funding from government or sponsorships. This makes it difficult for many potential choristers to be a member of the choir, particularly those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
The cost to send a chorister to Wales will be in the region of R30 000.
To raise funds, the committee has planned an afternoon of entertainment on Saturday 1 September 2012 at Westville Girls High, including a South African Flavour High Tea, fashion show and lucky draw prizes.

During the course of the afternoon, the Grannies will parade and the most popular entrant will be chosen as our “Glamorous Granny”.
If you are able to help with items for goody bags or lucky draws, please contact Margaret Barrat on the number below. Donors will be welcome to put up any advertising banners in the entrance hall for the duration of the event, and/or advertising pamphlets to be included in the “goody bags”
