Go Wild For Nature

By The Ridge Magazine13/10/20212 Mins Read

Go wild for nature – stand out from the herd and help raise money for our precious wildlife!

If you use your imagination at work, at school and even at home, you can unleash your animal instinct as part of the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) #WearItWild campaign from 14 October 2021 to 15 November – and do your bit for nature.

The WWF’s Wear It Wild Campaign encourages interested parties to host a fun day with a difference, where each person can dress up as their favourite animal. Participants are encouraged to donate a fee of R10 to WWF SA, to continue WWF SA’s efforts to protect our planet’s rich natural heritage.

The world’s wildlife needs our help, populations are diminishing rapidly, and we need to take urgent action to ensure that species don’t go extinct in our lifetime.

By participating in WWF’s #WearItWild, you get to stand out from the herd in animal-inspired fancy dress to help raise money to care for our ailing environment.

Habitat destruction, overfishing and poaching are having a drastic effect on animal populations worldwide. Here in South Africa, on average, three rhinos are poached a day.

Campaign in support of nature and wildlife conservation

#WearItWild is WWF’s annual fundraising campaign that takes place in workplaces, schools and homes across the country, when animal lovers get kitted out in wildlife-inspired fancy dress to raise funds for nature.

Participating is easy – organise a fancy dress event at work, school or at home and collect a R10 donation for WWF from participants who dress up as their favourite wild animal. Think along the lines of a mischievous monkey, raucous rhino or zesty zebra and issue fines for those who decide to arrive as mere humans.

If you’re working from home, connect online with colleagues over a cup of coffee to show off your fancy dress outfits. Perhaps, even pick a winner and give out a prize, like a free half-day off work.

Schools can participate by asking children to dress up for a R10 donation to WWF and even spend some time in the classroom making wildlife face masks.

Sign up now and help WWF continue its critical work to create a world where both people and nature thrive.  Visit WWF’s resources page for some fun poster and costume ideas for #WearItWild on 14 October 2021.
