Kloof Round Table is hosting its fourth annual Charity Golf Day on the 28th of May at Kloof Country Club, supporting the Gogos Support Groups initiative – part of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.
Every year Kloof Round Table hosts a Charity Golf Day to support and fundraise for the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, and this year is no different. On 28 May the fourth annual Charity Golf Day will commence at the Kloof Country Club.
Fundraising for the Golf Day for prizes and goodie bags are composed of sponsorships and donations from local businesses, as well as the players who participate on the day itself. All proceeds are used towards the Gogos Support Groups initiative – part of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. Last year over R65 000 was raised on the day alone.
The Gogo Support Groups programme provides over 2 000 local grandmothers, who are caring for their orphaned grandchildren, the opportunity to learn practical skills such as sewing. The gogos can participate in a six-month sewing course at one of the organisation’s three community-based sewing schools located in the Valley of 1000 Hills, at the end of which they are presented with their very own sewing machine. These newfound skills should hopefully ensure that they can start their own business, giving them better financial security as well as engendering a sense of pride and dignity in being able to care for themselves and their families.
Kloof Round Table, in conjunction with Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, would like nothing better than to help local gogos – not only to put clothes on the backs of their families, but to feed them too.
