Grant Thornton Durban is always looking for ways to give back to the community. When they heard about East Coast Radio’s “WaterShare project” which has collected over one million litres of water for parts of the province hardest hit by the ongoing drought, they knew this was the perfect opportunity to make a difference.
Carla Wilson and Yeshiagen Naidoo from the Grant Thornton Durban audit department, took the initiative and ensured that all staff were given the opportunity to get involved. The project was a huge success with funds raised from staff amounting to an incredible R7, 000.00! This generous contribution was then matched by the partners of Grant Thornton Durban, bringing the total amount raised to R14, 000.00. With this money, the project was able to purchase 1,400 five litre bottles of water which equates to a whopping seven thousand litres of water!
The water was provided by Artesian Clear Natural Spring Water, the first drop-off destination being Vryheid. Grant Thornton Durban have no doubt that everyone’s generosity will have a huge impact on the lives of some very needy families.
The Grant Thornton Durban office has an outstanding reputation for giving back to the community, something all their staff and partners feel very strongly about. On September 17th, 2015 the office participated in the Grant Thornton Global CSR Day by reaching out to the children of Gugu’s Crèche in Inanda as well as children from St Thomas’ Children’s Home in Sydenham amongst others. “We have a long tradition of supporting our local communities,” says Deepak Nagar, national chairman of Grant Thornton SA and managing partner of Grant Thornton Durban. “We’re always looking at ways to make contributions be it giving of our time, skills or expertise to make a difference to a variety of charitable and community organisations.”
