A night on the red carpet at Hirsch
The parking area at Hirsch’s Hillcrest was transformed into a red carpet on Saturday 8th March, when 17 talented young people took to the stage in the grand finale of “R u the NXT Rising Star” talent competition.
The best singing, acting and dancing performances from previous rounds of the competition all came together to compete in the finale, organised by Hirsch’s in conjunction with Rising Star Academy.
Three prizes were awarded in the 10-14 year old category, with the best actress award going to Joanie Cassidy, Best Dancer going to Riley George and best singer going to Leah Mari for her rousing rendition of Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie”.The prize for best singer in the 15-17 year age group went to Mpumelelo Methula. Other awards included the audience’s favourite, which went to Daniella Frank for her performance of Lady Gaga’s Born this way.
The recipient of the final award chosen by the performers themselves, who were asked to vote for one rising star who they felt had offered them the most support and encouragement throughout the workshop stages of the competition. This was deservedly awarded to Sarah McQuilliam.
All 17 of the finalists moved one step closer to living their dream on Saturday night, and the teams from Hirsch’s, Rising Star Academy, Sony and the Hillcrest Fever encouraged each contestant to continue to the chase their dreams.
