The time is here – thousands of hopeful matrics will be rushing to their local newspapers to see how they fared in the National Senior Certificate Exams. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced a pass rate of 70.2% in Pretoria on Wednesday – up from 67.8% in 2010 and 60.7% in 2009.
24.3% achieved university entrance. The Western Cape topped the table, with a pass rate of 82.9%, while 68.1% of KwaZulu Natal learners passed.
“We would also like to draw special attention to those matriculants who, even though faced with adverse learning conditions, performed exceptionally well,” President Jacob Zuma was quoted as saying.
“You have demonstrated not only to your peers but to the rest of the country that your circumstances do not determine what you can and cannot do. We wish you well in your future plans.”
