While we may not want to discuss the nightmare that was the 2011 Absa Currie Cup Final, at least one good thing has come of it… Skipper Josh Strauss was stripped of his Simba-like beard by his Lions teammates to reveal a decidedly better look!
Strauss’s facial hair has sparked quite a trend during the tournament, with dozens of fans turning up at games with his trademark beard.
The story goes that Strauss refused to shave the growth until his girlfriend relocated from Cape Town to Gauteng. But it seems his teammates had had enough, and Wikus van Heerden took the opportunity after Saturday’s 42-16 Currie Cup final victory against the Sharks to give Strauss a makeover.
