Twitter users have answered the call to declare today (Friday) “Juju Friday” by placing thumbnail pictures of outspoken youth leader Julius Malema on their Twitter profiles.
This was in response to Malema’s earlier outburst against the popular social networking forum and claims by the ANC Youth League that they would shut Twitter down if need be. But it seems that people power has overcome political muscle for the moment as many users have also spread the campaign to Facebook posting pictures or satirical cartoons of Malema on their Facebook profiles.
A hit single called Nationalisation?
Perhaps this is an indication of the power of social networking platforms. While Malema was deeply unhappy at the endless derogatory comments being posted about him, it seems there’s precious little he can do to stop it. Social media also apparently gives the little man the opportunity to respond to Malema’s confrontational rhetoric . . . and make his/her voice heard. – Ridge Correspondent
