The silver screen will come to life for Durban fashion fans attending the annual Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase presented by LIPSY on June 18 and 20, with director Tiffany Prior vowing that the theme “The Big Screen” will ensure a spectacular show for the audience lucky enough to have secured tickets.

The two shows have a loyal following of socialites and fashion lovers who eagerly glean ideas for their raceday outfits from the works of the stellar designers on show. The evening is made up of the premiere showing of the ensembles from the eight Vodacom Durban July Invited Designers, the ten Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award finalists and the ten Vodacom Durban Fashion Challenge finalists.
The intimate venue provides excellent close-up viewing opportunities of the runway, with a hi-tech audio-visual feast supporting the models on the catwalk. Prior says this year’s show promises to take the spectacle to a new level, thanks to the romance and inspiration of the theme “The Big Screen”.
“The fashion extravaganza is going to feel very 1940’s and 1950’s,” hinted Prior. “Although the venue presents a challenging space to work with, we have created a movie screen where models effortlessly glide out of the screen.”
Opening with flashes of iconic movie quotes, the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase promises to be a night filled with vogue fashion and movie magic.
“Don’t think of the Red Carpet, imagine the Vanity Fair after-party,” explained Prior. “Through the ages, the after-party was where everyone who was anyone wanted to be. It was ever so stylish and elegant.”
Glamorous and fashion forward ensembles from the mix of established and emerging designers will give the audience a tease of what to expect on race day. The eight Vodacom Durban July Invited Designers that will be gracing the stage are: Andre Martin, Casey Jeanne, Karen Monk Klijnstra, Kathrin Kidger, Vino Moodley, Zama Mathe hailing from KwaZulu-Natal and David Tlale and Paledi Segapo from Gauteng.
Fashion lovers will have two chances to see the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase, on June 18 at a Cheese and Wine Evening and on June 20 at a Dinner Evening.
