The Twitter Blanket Drive (TBD) was started with one little tweet from @meloanieminnaar in 2010 galvanising the South African Twitter community into action and asking them to donate a blanket to the needy to help them through the cold winter months.
In 2010 TBD collected 700 blankets, in 2011 2 700, and this year they’re going for a massive 8 000 – which can be achieved if just 1% of the SA Tweeps give a blanket. So tell your friends, retweet, and warm someone up. It really is the most direct way to help, to put a blanket in a box and know that it will be wrapped around someone’s shoulders this winter.
The Sharks were down at Spiga D’Oro on Friday, 25 May, raising awareness in the beautiful courtyard at the back and Livingstons have also done their bit.
Get to one of the boxes in Florida Road or an outlet near you, and donate. It’s chilly out there.
