The Midmar Mile is held every year at the Midmar Dam, situated near Howick and Pietermaritzburg, and draws thousands of competitors ranging from Olympic athletes to recreational swimmers.
The Midmar Mile was recognised by the Guiness Book of World Records as being the world’s largest open water swimming event, after 13 755 competitors took part in 2009.
The 2014 edition will take place on the weekend of the 8th and 9th February.
