Leap Day for Frogs 2015

By The Crest Magazine26/01/20152 Mins Read
Join Kloof Conservancy for fun froggy activities and a talk by Dr Jeanne Tarrant followed by a search for Frogs in Memorial Park.

Come and join Kloof Conservancy on 28 February 2015 for a fun-filled, educational evening with one of SA’s leading frog experts, Dr Jeanne Tarrant.

This is a joint venture with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and the Threatened Amphibian Programme.

This year, they will be exploring the wetlands at Memorial Park but before they venture out in search of frogs they would love for you to join them in some great fun activities for young children and adults at the Scout Hall at Memorial Park.

There will be a tuck-shop with wors rolls and chicken burgers and your support would be greatly appreciated but you are most welcome to bring your own picnic dinner to enjoy on the lawn in the Park.

The gate opens at 5pm and mascot Rubi-D will be there to welcome everyone. There will be face-painting and colouring in for the younger ones, as well as frog educational activities and some fun frog races (with cardboard/wooden frogs!).

At 18:15 there will be a talk entitled “Going Green for Frogs – Leap Day 2015” by Dr Tarrant. The talk will cover frogs in general but will focus on our local species.

The talk will be followed by a quiz with spot prizes, after which everyone is invited to join in a guided walk to hear and see frogs in the park.

There will be an entry fee at the Scout Hall (R20 adults / R10 Children) – all funds go to EWT Threatened Amphibian Programme

EWT are also running a National Art Competition ahead of the event. They are inviting children in South Africa between 3 and 16 to send in their frog art by 28 February, to be judged to go forward to the international “Frogs are Green Art Competition” later in 2015.

All art forms are welcome, including drawings, paintings and sculptures. Age categories: 3-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-16 years. Entries must include: Full Name, Age, Town and Province. Prizes will be awarded for each age category.

Entries can be made online on the Leap Day for Frogs Facebook page or at participating Eco-schools or by bringing them to the Memorial Park Leap Day Event in Kloof.
