Several FMI staff members participated in an Easter Egg Hunt at the Ingwe Emabala Poverty Reaction Home (a safe house of sorts for abused children) last month. The home is run by Tracy Malwane who relies purely on donations, primarily from Indlela (a non profit organisation that collects and allocates funds to worthy projects) to keep the children she looks after fed and cared for.
Tracy pointed out, on FMI’s visit to the home, that they had a very real need for a washing machine. Washing the clothes of 30 children every day by hand is no small task, not to mention time consuming.
Lauren Laing of FMI contacted Richard Hirsch from Hirsch’s and asked him if they could help Tracy in any way. Richard replied a few days later saying they could definitely donate a washing machine to Indlela, who would then make sure it ended up in Tracy’s safe house, halving her tough work load.
FMI are overjoyed to have made the connection between a need and a solution. On June 6 FMI, Indlela and the generous staff from Hirsch’s met at the North Coast Road Service and Repairs building to partake in the official hand over of the washing machine.
