It was while Keli Hariparsad attended Danville Park Girls High School that she penned and published her first short novel in 2008 – Let’s Rock! – an energetic teenage fiction centred on the theme of music and its ability to draw different types of people together.
After matric, Keli studied medicine at the Mthatha campus of Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape, and fortunately for her, the university’s programme allowed her the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time in Port Elizabeth – a city she fondly writes about in her new novel, The Durban Four Hundred.
The Durban Four Hundred is a story Keli began writing in her final year of medical school, and was completed in just over three years, while working as a doctor.
The book – which falls under the new adult fiction category – concerns seven local characters who have been brought together to create concept footage for a reality TV series. The book touches on progressive issues such as being a social media generation and the millennial wealth gap.
