On Saturday, the Umgeni Bridge, which has been the subject of major reconstruction on the Umgeni River side, lost the sea side of the bridge wall which collapsed while traffic was crossing.

The part which fell was the newly constructed walkway which is used by fishermen. Fortunately no one was injured.
Traffic is contained to one lane, and motorists are urged to use alternative routes where possible to reach their destinations.
