Mark Charlesworth is training to walk the East Coast Radio 5 KM “Big Walk”, seemingly impossible physical challenge for someone with an incomplete spinal cord injury.

After a freak accident, Mark was classified as a quadriplegic and the doctors said I would never be able to move again from the neck down as my spinal cord. Mark has gained back some function over the years in both my arms and legs I cannot stand up without using my arms to push myself upright and I use a frame to walk with.

Mark has set himself a personal challenge of completing the East Coast Radio 5 KM “Big Walk”  and turned it into a charity event to try and create awareness for people with disabilities and hopefully, raise money for 5 very worthy charities, Highway Hospice, QuadPara SA, St Giles Durban, The Chris Burger / Petro Jackson players fund and Vema Paramedics.

Mark would love to try and raise R500 000.00 in total for these organisations. Their bank details are listed below should you wish to donate and show your support please send a confirmation email and proof of payment to donations@550steps.co.za in order to help us keep track of incoming funds and of allow them to personally thank you, tax certificates are available on request.

If you would like to join Mark on the day of the race being the 19th May 2019 or be involved in any way to support or assist us please contact me via email at mark@550steps.co.za or telephone me on 082 440 4215 for more information.
