The combination of tutors and computers gives Master Maths and Master Science an edge to your child’s learning.
By 2020, 50% of all high school education will be done through a computer,” predicts Professor Clayton Christenson of Harvard Business School, speaking about education in the US. This trend is echoed worldwide. For South Africa, these developments will be invaluable, and programmes such as Master Maths and Master Science are right at the cutting edge.
Established in 1976, Master Maths has grown a significant footprint across the country with over 150 franchises to date, offering Mathematics tuition for Grades 4 to 12. Master Science was launched in 2011 and offers Physical Science tuition for Grade 10 to 12 learners.
So why is Master Maths so successful? “Our programme is relevant and up to date, according to the national curriculum,” says Barbara Southey of Master Maths Kloof. “Our tutors enable learners to work at their own pace and focus on their individual problem areas. However, the system really excels at combining tutor interaction and computer-aided learning.”
Results are especially notable with learners who enrol earlier in the year, as Maths and Science are challenging subjects, and learners need time to master them.
The Master Maths centre in Kloof was started 10 years ago by Barbara and Peter Southey. They bought a property on Old Main Road, demolished the garage and custom-built a teaching centre. “I thought that we were far too optimistic with the size of the building, but we’ve already outgrown it,” says Peter. “Recently, we completed significant renovations, including increased parking, to allow us to welcome more students.”
Barbara is a highly-qualified maths teacher and taught for many years at Epworth High School in Pietermaritzburg before launching Master Maths Kloof. Peter brings a wide range of business experience and academic qualifications to the venture.
Together, they have built a team of competent and qualified tutors who are motivated to make a difference. They are all proudly Kloof-based and dedicated to helping local learners!
