Melani Jerome has spent the last few years in London with her husband Charlie and two adorable daughters, Holly and Emma. Although she has always loved painting, it seemed a natural progression when she got back to Durban to turn the decorating skills she had picked up working with her property developer husband into a career as an full time artist.
Melani’s home, overlooking the 18th Fairway at Mount Edgecombe, really brings the outside in, with huge expanses of glass, and one of the first things you notice on entering the stunning entrance hall are two of Melani’s pictures. The vivid colours and muted backgrounds of the orchid and the strelitzia jump off the canvasses and bring a vibrant feel to the room.
Local galleries are already taking interest, and Melani is also taking on commissions. It is always so lovely to come across someone with this much talent working in their own home and balancing their art and family life, although Melani did mention that she gets up to touch up one small area of a painting and finds that she is still there five hours later. Lucky girl to have such a supportive husband!
