Without access to quality education, many children born into poverty may remain trapped in that desperate cycle for their whole lives. But Project Hope is working to make a good education more accessible to the children who need it most.
Project Hope, a charity based at the Hillcrest Methodist Church, comes alongside rural preschools to ensure that every facet of a child’s well-being is nurtured. Their most recent partnership is with a little preschool called Senathi Creche.
After seeing that children in their neighbourhood were being left unsupervised during the day whilst their parents worked, the Khwela family used what little resources they had, and started Senathi Creche eight years ago. Project Hope was contacted by the head of the family, Mr Bahle Khwela, who was determined to improve the preschool. Extremely impressed by the passion and dedication that the Khwela family have for children and what they have achieved with little to no means, the Founder and Director of Project Hope felt compelled to help.
Project Hope has begun the massive task of moving this preschool, and its fifty little children, from its current dilapidated premises and onto neighbouring land. To date, they have installed perimeter fencing, signage, and a water storage tank, as well as a school food garden. The most recent achievement was the provision of one classroom complete with educational content. This has allowed eight children to be moved across to the new premises.
The charity is seeking to partner with individuals or companies that are able to assist with the completion of this exciting project. There are forty-two more children who they are determined to shift across to the new school over the course of the next few months but they are unable to achieve this without community involvement.
