Music and art at Makaranga

Music and art at Makaranga

Are you looking for something special to do with the whole family this weekend? Then head to Makaranga Garden Lodge for a wonderful mix of music and art, brought to you by Kloof Rotary.

Music and Art in the Hills is back with an exciting programme of talented musicians, the KZN Youth Orchestra and local school choirs building up to the finale of 300 children accompanied by the orchestra.

Saturday starts with the opening of Art In The Hills, an exhibition supported by over 40 well-known artists from around KZN. There is something for everyone – from beautiful oils to serene water-colour paintings, bronze sculptures, richly-coloured glassware and the unique sand art of Mat Louwrens.

Other artists include Charmaine Eastment, Robin Townsend, Pascal Chandler, Nicole Pletts and many more, with pieces for all budgets. The art exhibition continues on Sunday with the added attraction of Music In The Hills.

The beautiful grounds of Makaranga Garden

The gardens of the Makaranga Garden Lodge make a spectacular natural theatre where, in 2010, an audience of 2 500 people filled the rolling lawns to the stage.

This year, the programme includes the KZN Youth Orchestra, senior primary school choirs from the area and selected nationally-acclaimed soloists. The world-renowned Kearsney College choir will bring an extra touch of magic to the afternoon with its varied repertoire of music, ranging from well-known favourites to special renditions in the languages of our colourful nation.

Conductors Lyk Temming and Richard Cock will lead the music as the choirs join together in a grand finale of 300 children singing with the orchestra.

Tickets will be available from Village Mall SuperSpar, Maytime KwikSpar and Makaranga Garden Lodge at a cost of R20 per person for Art in the Hills, and from R30 per child and R60 per adult for Music in the Hills on Sunday.
