There was chaos on the N2 freeway on Friday when an abnormal-load truck carrying mining equipment clipped a footbridge between Higginson Highway and the M7 south of Durban, causing the bridge to collapse on Friday evening.

Netcare911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said about ten vehicles collided after the fall of the bridge.
He said that miraculously, no injuries were reported.
Heavy duty cranes were arranged to move the bridges safely to the side of the road.
Both carriage ways were closed, and it was hoped that the road would be open by Saturday rush hour.
