The South African National Road Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL), the KwaZulu Natal Department of Transport, and the Ethekwini Municipality are upgrading the N2/M41 Mt Edgecombe Interchange north of Durban.
Interruptions can be expected from the morning of 6 September, when the right-turn movement for vehicles travelling on the M41 from Umhlanga Rocks towards the N2 North towards King Shaka Airport, Kwa Dukuza, and Ballito will not be able to turn right off the M41 towards the N2 anymore.
Motorists will have to keep left on the M41 to turn left onto a temporary constructed loop ramp on the South side of the M41 which will allow vehicles travelling from Umhlanga Rocks towards the N2 North to join the N2 on the South side of the M41.
Logashri Sewnarain, SANRAL Regional Manager, said, “The road improvements are meant to significantly improve capacity, safety for motorists, as well as provide free flow traffic movements in all directions.”
As part of the final upgrade of the Interchange, a new bridge under the M41 will be constructed to allow traffic on the N2 travelling from Durban to Umhlanga Rocks to pass underneath the M41 before joining it.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused as traffic is temporarily diverted, causing inevitable time delays. Please be patient, as we believe that on completion the road will be safer and ensure a better and uninterrupted journey. We urge drivers to please drive carefully,” Ms Sewnarain concluded.
