There are changes afoot at Durban’s popular Food Market. Fans of this Durban North institution will be thrilled to know it’s here to stay . . . and will endeavour to keep going from strength to strength. Here’s a message from the operators Nick Papadopoulos and Eric Edwards.
“As you know, The food market was started by four enterprising entrepreneurs namely Nick Papadopoulos, Eric Edwards, Karen Brokensha and Emma Dunk in September 2009. To date they have hosted 16 proudly KZN, monthly food markets at the Hellenic Community Centre in Durban North, won a prestigious foodies award with Eat In Magazine and won a gold award for their extremely successful “Trading Store” at the House and Garden Show in June 2010. And like all seasons that come and go, change is in the air!!”

Partnership
They went on to say that Karen and Emma would be stepping out of their market partnership, handing over their marketing/PR reins to Nick and Eric, who have appointed Sandy Swanby as their administrator. Nicci Connellan remains in charge of trader finance on the day. Karen is expecting her second baby in May and aims to reprioritise her family and Corporate Marketing Consulting commitments, while Emma wants to focus strategically on her PR Communications business.
Karen and Emma thanked Nick and Eric for the opportunity to live a passion, plant a marketing seed and watch the brand develop into something they are both exceptionally proud of. They also thanked all the traders, fans and their contacts who have supported the initiative and promise to remain faithful fans and support “the best food market in Durban”!
